In a recent interview with Gabriel Montoya of our sister site, MaxBoxing.com, Brandon 'Bam Bam' Rios gave his straight up / cut through the bull / and refreshing answer as to why and how he lost to Manny Pacquiao. Rios gave full props to Pacquiao, and made no excuses... instead he highlighted the top 2 reasons of what Pacquiao did extremely well that flustered him in their bout.
“Honestly, it was speed, man," Rios told Montoya in regards to his loss defeat in Macau, China to Pacquiao. Rios added more to emphasize just how fast Pacman was, stating: "The speed really got to me. It was really a factor. I had some guys in sparring with speed but this guy had tremendous speed."
The other factor that played key to the outcome was that Rios did not expect Pacquiao to be such a great southpaw fighter.
“I think also too it had to do with the southpaw [style]," said Rios, adding: "I hadn't fought a southpaw in a really long time. I was never used to a southpaw until Pacquiao. So sparring southpaws in the gym, they weren't as great a southpaw as [Pacquiao]. He's not only a unique southpaw but [the most] awkward southpaw out there and that what was had a lot to do with it.”
