Golden Boy's CEO, Richard Schaefer is the man credited for a lot of behind the scenes work to help finalize Floyd "Money" Mayweather Jr. vs. Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez; a fight which was made official late last night. Schaefer worked through Memorial day to make it happen and it almost got crashed by a Wedding.

Yes, this here is the story of how Amir Khan's Wedding was almost the crasher that put negotiations on hold, at least for the time being.

Speak late last night to ESPN, Schaefer in regards to some of the obstacles he hit in the final hours of negotiating, stated: "I kept working and working. On Monday, when everyone was at their Memorial Day barbecue, I was in the office working on both sides. Then I felt I got it to a point where I could get Canelo to sign, but when they came in (on Wednesday), they were not OK with certain aspects of the deal."

The clock was ticking and time passing because the next day, Thursday (Today), Schaefer had plans to fly to New York to attend Amir Khan's wedding. "I said, 'We are getting it done or not getting it done because I am going to New York for the wedding,' " Schaefer told the sports publication, adding: "I said, 'Look, we have to leave no stone unturned. We are close. We will either go for the kill or we don't.' "

Schaefer went on to add that at times in the 11th hour of the deal making, it seemed the fight would not happen, but after an exhausting day and some back and forth telephone conversations with Mayweather, both sides finally agreed. And so with that, Schaefer can now hop on his flight and catch the Khan wedding in peace. (He's earned it!)

I am sure that every real Boxing fan under the Sun is thankful for a job well done by Schaefer and all those involved in the negotiations. After all, everything about this fight is for the fans.
