Have we all forgotten about the Pacman? I am proud to answer that question with... Apparently not. This article you are reading is 100% proof that Manny Pacquiao is not taking a backseat in the minds of fans everywhere. In fact with the hottest news in boxing and all of sports for that matter right now being the recent announcement of Floyd "Money" Mayweather Jr. vs. Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez, one might be excused for thinking Pacquiao is old news, a forgotten relic of days gone by... but that would be harsh and foolish thinking... and considering the huge news of "Money" vs. "Canelo" on the heart and minds of fans everywhere... I find this next bit of fact that much more impressive...
Folks, let me tell start by telling you it's not everyday you see boxing trend on Yahoo's Top 10 trending list, so when you see Boxing break into the list, you take notice. Not only did Pacquiao make the top trending list on Yahoo late last night and early this morning, but the Pac-Master reach the hardest button to push... reaching the number 1 spot. (You can see the image to the left of this text showing Pacquiao trending at number one.)
Funny thing is (and again also impressive) that Pacquiao is trending high not on some brand new breaking story, controversy or a fight announcement (we've known for some time now about Pac vs. Brandon Rios on Nov. 23 in Macau, China)... Pacquiao is actually trending on regurgitated old news. A story reported more than once in prior months is that Pacman *Might not (*keywords) fight again on American soil. The same old story (with some new quotes from Pacman's promoter, Bob Arum) resurfaced in the headlines yesterday (see L.A.Times - Lance Pugmire) and once again it got people in a buzz talking up a storm on Pacquiao. That just shows how popular our man Pacquiao still remains to this day. And again I want to stress that with Money vs. Canelo the talk of the town... Pacquiao trending at number 1 at this point in time on basically old news makes it that much more amazing.
Let's absorb this for a moment and take into consideration why this is an impressive feat... Ranking as high as #1 on Yahoo's list is by no means an easy accomplishment. To make it to the top spot on Yahoo's trending list means a tremendous amount of people used Yahoo's popular search engine to learn more and get updates on "Manny Pacquiao". Yahoo gets its data for its list from traffic of users who are utilizing their extremely popular search engine to gauge what are the top trends. By using their own collected data, there is no way to cheat Yahoo's system. Still not convinced? Yahoo also uses Facebook and Twitter in the formula. Whether it's spiking in Yahoo searches, most shared on Facebook or a trending topic on Twitter, Yahoo's top trending list stays on top of the latest, most interesting and buzzed about information.
It has been an amazing week for Boxing in the main stream
media, and Pacquiao trending so high makes it that much sweeter... certainly worth a BIG YAHOO!
