Boxing career on the Rocks as Matt Remillard sent to Prison over Assault

By Johnny Benz, Doghouse Boxing - On Tuesday, Matt Remillard was sentenced to serve 5 years in over assaulting a young man with a baseball bat over a woman. Remillard who is 25 years of age, had pleaded no contest to first-degree assault and was sentenced in Hartford Superior Court. After the sentencing verdict, Remillard was escorted by Police to start serving his 5 year prison term.

Remillard was one of boxing's most promising up coming stars, and with the verdict, his boxing career is pretty much over.

Quoted in the media, Kevin O’Brien, one of the lawyers for Remillard stated after the Court's verdict: "Matt, by accepting this plea, has given up his career. This is just a tragedy.”

Some of the details that came out in court over of the assault that landed Remillard are just straight up horrific. The victim was a 22 year old male named Jordan Evans. Evans who is lucky to be alive recalled some of the ordeal that happened back in January of last year.

Evans told the Court that Remillard assaulted him with a bat numerous times at a home in Marlborough. During the assault, Jordan made a break for it and ran outside into his unlocked car. He locked the doors but had no keys to start the ignition to drive away. He was stranded inside the car while a Remillard (described as being crazed) smashed the car repeatedly with the bat while threatening to kill Jordan and members of his family.

Jordan needed multiple plates inserted in his head, as well as reconstructive surgery on the top front of his head. He also needed 150 stitches.

You got to feel bad for Jordan, no one deserves to be assaulted in such a manner... and Remillard a talented boxer really had no right to hit Jordan let alone with a bat.
