By Johnny Benz, Doghouse Boxing. - By now you are fully aware of last night's boxing results. The main
event on HBO's "Boxing After Dark" telecast saw Adrien Broner easily
take care of Vicente Escobedo inside 5 rounds. Broner has been compared
by many as the next Floyd Mayweather. Speaking after the fight to
Boxing scribe, Chris Robinson, veteran HBO commentator and analyst,
Larry Merchant was asked about what he thought about "Money" Mayweather
comparisons to Broner.
In regards to the Adrien Broner /
Floyd Mayweather comparisons, when asked, Merchant stated: "I think it’s
a reasonable comparison.”
Merchant was quick to point out he
doesn't think Broner is as skilled as Mayweather was at a young age, but
touted the power Broner has.
"I don’t think he’s as
well-schooled a fighter as Mayweather was when he was very young,"
stated Merchant to Robinson, adding: "But he’s very strong at this
weight and I think that it’s a good thing for him to be compared to a
young Mayweather. If he has people in the fight world talking about him,
at twenty-two, in that way, he’s achieved something."
Well time will tell if Broner can hold it together and hit the plateau many are expecting of him. I am hoping he does. .
