By Johnny Benz, Doghouse Boxing. Miguel Cotto takes on Austin Trout this coming December 1st. Before
Cotto accepted a fight with Austin, he was offered a fight by Bob Arum
of Top Rank against Manny Pacquiao. To everyone's shock, Cotto turned
down the Pacquiao fight offer and went ahead with a fight of lesser value
in Trout. Until now, Cotto has remained largely silent on the matter,
but recently he spoke out on matter with ESPN and clarified his
side. Cotto turned Pacquiao down over pride.
Speaking to Espn in
regards to the offer made to fight Pacquiao and why he turned it down, Cotto stated: "The only
offer Top Rank ever made us was the same money as in 2009. (Bob Arum)
made the same offer he made 2009, and we found it kind of funny. That
was the reason we decided not to face Pacquiao."
Cotto went on to
add to his reasoning, stating: "And they also wanted me to go down to
150 lbs. and give him the same advantage that they gave Pacquiao in
2009, a catchweight."
