By Johnny Benz, Doghouse Boxing. As you know by now, Amir Khan recently fired Freddie Roach as his
trainer in favor of Virgil Hunter. The main reason was to have a
trainer that was 100% focused on him. As great as a trainer that Roach
is, Khan believes Roach is stretch thin between fighters such as
himself, Manny Pacquiao, Victor Ortiz and Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. just to name a few.
With Hunter, Khan expects he will have his new trainer's full
attention. Another reason Khan admits to dropping the services of Roach
is due in part to his illness. Roach suffers from Parkinson's disease,
and Khan believes his symptoms are only getting worse.
Quoted
recently by the AP, regarding his thoughts on Roach's illness, Khan
stated: "Freddie's illness, it's very hard to see him as he's getting
older. I believe that he's getting worse, and I wish him all the best."
Khan
went on to add: "Freddie is still, with the Parkinson's disease, doing a
great job working the mitts and working with fighters day in, day out. I
just believe that I need someone who is going to work me that bit
harder and get the best out of me."
Khan's first fight under the tutalage of Hunter comes on Dec. 15th against unbeaten Carlos Molina.
