Boxing Coach Freddie Roach files Libel Suit in Manny Pacquiao, Amir Khan Drug Allegations by Paulie Malignaggi

Freddie Roach has always insisted that his fighters are clean and do not utilize and drugs such as steroids or illegal performance enhancements. Roach is well respected in the Boxing community as a top trainer, he has a great reputation, so its no surprise that he would be upset over allegations of drug use on any of his fighters.

Paulie Malignaggi who is set to take on Amir Khan this Saturday at Madison Square Garden, is one such fighter who has stated that he feels (thinks) that Manny Pacquiao maybe taking some sort of drug and somewhat implied

that Khan, through association may also be taking drugs.

Quoted recently in the Media, Roach fired back over the drug allegations, stating: "Amir (Khan) and Manny (Pacquiao) work with me and my trainers."

Roach did not stop there and went on to add that he has a libel suit against Malignaggi. "I know what goes on in my gym and I've had enough of this rubbish. That's why we've issued a libel suit. Paulie (Malignaggi) brought it up that Amir might be on something because he trains with us. My guys are clean. It's an insult because the success of my fighters is down to hard work."

Malignaggi is not the first to make his thoughts on drugs being used by Pacquiao, public. Members from Floyd "Money" Mayweather's team have also stated they think Pacquiao is taking some sort of drug.

My thoughts / opinions: I am certainly not choosing sides, but I can understand why Freddie Roach would take anyone to court over these serious allegations of drug use, such as steroids or any illegal performance enhancing drugs. Roach's reputation can easily be hurt if such allegations are allowed to go on without proof and without challenge to the claims. I also understand we as people are allowed to state what we "think"... but we have to realize we can't just blurt out certain things without proof... especially when it can damage someone else's livelihood. I guess in a way I am choosing Roach's side... In my opinion, there should be proof given with such allegations.
