Los Angeles is angling at trying to host the World Cup (soccer) in either 2018, or 2022. Actually 18 cities in the US are hoping to land the World Cup in coming years, but it looks like Los Angeles may have the upper hand, since the United States bidding committee for the event is full of people from L.A.

One such big name on the committee is boxing's very own Oscar De La Hoya. De La Hoya is also a known soccer fan and even reportedly owns his own soccer team (De La Hoya is a co-owner of the Houston Dynamo, of
Major League Soccer).

Other Key Californians on the committee include the "Governator", Arnold Schwarzenegger, and Walt Disney CEO, Robert Iger.

According to a report out by Southern California Public Radio, Univision CEO Joe Uva , media tycoon Casey Wasserman and Philip Anschultz, the owner of the Staples Center and the Home Depot Center are also on the committee that will be pitching L.A. to host the World Cup.
