Ignacio "Nacho" Beristain, who trains Juan Manuel Marquez believes that Floyd Mayweather Jr. (who Marquez recently lost too) is indeed the top pound for pound fighter on the planet. Beristain trained Marquez for his two epic battles against Manny Pacquiao. Pacquiao is regarded by many as the Top Pound for Pound Boxer.

Beristain speaking on ESPN's Spanish TV program "Golpe a Golpe," discussed why they took the fight against Mayweather Jr. Beristain stated: "We took the fight because the offer was real good and the fact that the fight was going to be at 143 pounds."

Beristain went on to add: "But the day of the weighin, Mayweather came at 146 and we were really angry at that but then again I am not the promoter so we talked with Juan Manuel and we decided that we would fight because the public was paying to see the fight."

Beristain went on to praise Floyd Mayweather Jr., giving the fighter not only credit for being the Pound for Pound best, but also regarding Mayweather Jr. as one of the best fighters ever. "Even when Mayweather Jr. was not responsible enough, I have to say he is one of the best fighters ever," said Beristain, adding: "He has tremendous speed and he has a great defense, he is very confident in the ring and he is really good and smart, but Juan fought with courage, with heart, and refused to go down against the best fighter pound for pound in the world."
