Now that it is official that Manny Pacquiao will take on Miguel Cotto on November 14th (on HBO Pay-Per-View), I thought it would be a great time to check out the feedback here from Fans that use our forum at Doghouse Boxing.
I came across a well thought our article on the subject from DogPound member Reggie Jay. Here now is what Reggie Jay had to say on Manny Pacquiao vs. Miguel Cotto.
Manny Pacquiao vs Miguel Cotto - Thoughts and a Prediction:
By Reggie Jay
I'm assuming Pacquiao hits pretty decently at 147. He could stun De La Hoya at welterweight and it appears that he has pretty crazy power at junior welterweight. Judah, meanwhile, hit decently at welterweight but was by no means a one-punch KO artist. I think Pacquiao can hit hard enough to buzz Cotto at 147.
I'm assuming that Pacquiao has a better (read: faster and more accurate) southpaw cross than both Quintana and Judah.
I'm assuming that Pacquiao has better (read: faster and more elusive) footwork than Quintana, who Cotto had trouble finding.
I'm assuming that the hole in Cotto's defense for southpaw crosses is still there. Cotto's orthodox "earmuff" defense opens the avenue for a left straight even more so than a classic orthodox defense. Like Steward said during both the Cotto - Judah and De La Hoya - Pacquiao telecasts, a right hand positioned at the cheek or higher, rather than hovering near the center of the face. leaves an opening for a quick left down the center.
PREDICTION:
Of course, that's a lot of assumptions but this is boxing, after all. Pacquiao TKO11.
