Prizefighter has long had the reputation as a spring board for
little known boxers and at York Hall, Bethnal Green last night
another emerging talent made his name known.
Larry Ekundayo, a Nigerian now boxing out of Stoke Newington,
had only had two professional fights prior to signing up for
Matchroom's eight man tournament, but scored victories over Craig
McEwan, Kris Carslaw and Terry Carruthers to take home a cheque for
£32,000.
"It feels good. It means a lot to me because I've come a long
way," the 30-year-old told Sky sports afterwards.
"I'm very grateful to showcase my talents on Sky Sports and for
Spencer [Fearon, his manager] to have faith in me. It means a lot
to me.
"My style is natural, I can switch styles and I can adapt."
The likes of Martin Murray and Rocky Fielding were far from
household names prior to their triumphs in the tournament but have
since proven to be amongst the top boxers in the country.
