Jamie Myer Fight Promotions Presents Friday the 13th

Feb 11, 2004  Media Report
Jamie Myer fight promotions stage their first show for 2004 with a six bout card at the Southport RSL on Friday Feb 13.

In the main event, Palm Beach's Juarne Dowling takes on seasoned Marc Bargero with the vacant Australian Super Middleweight title up for grabs. The 23 year old Dowling, considered unlucky by many not to win the PABA title in October is the current Queensland champion and will have his work cut out for him against five time Australian champion Bargero based in Gosford, NSW. Bargero, 35, dubbed the ‘working class man” has mixed it with some of the best in the world including Anthony Mundine, Sam Soliman, David Starie, Ricky Thornberry and Yoshinori Nishizawa.

In other action, Swedens former world title challenger Frank Demilo meets Gold Coaster Matt Heyes Powell for the Pan European Super Bantamweighht belt.  Demilo, 29, a Rawandan born Swedish southpaw who boxed previously out of the UK now lives in Surfers Paradise and trains at Tweed Heads PCYC. The Griffith university student has had one fight in Australia, scoring a 91 second win in November but is expected to have a much tougher night against local rival Powell, a multiple Australian amateur rep who formerly trained out of the Team Fenech stable.

Former Australian Heavyweight champion Nathan ‘Nasty Boy’ Briggs makes his return to boxing when he clashes with Mark Alexander from Gympie. Twin brother of WBC # 2 Lt. Heavyweight Paul Briggs, Nathan last boxed in 2001, the same year he won and lost his National throne. He is eyeing a rematch with Bob Mirivic and a shot at his old Australian crown now held by Col Wilson.

The Gold Coast’s Paul Tapley faces Brisbane’s Brian Fogarty for the vacant Queensland Jnr Middleweight title. In his last start, Tapley lost his state welterweight title to Matt Shaw who he’d previously beaten. If he defeats Fogarty he wants a rubber match with Shaw.

Two welterweight four rounders begin the night. Fabrice Hona and Joe Salqhist meet while newcomer David Chucky Slovak and Bary Hancock get it on.
