Chicago, IL, (March 14, 2014) In front of a huge crowd at Cicero Stadium on Thursday night, twelve quarterfinals bouts took place as part of the 2014 Chicago Golden Gloves Tournament.

The semifinal rounds continue on Friday and Saturday night this week at Cicero Stadium with the first bell at 7:30 p.m. CT each night. Cicero Stadium is located at 1909 S. Laramie in Cicero, IL.

In the first bout of the evening, Bryan Cornelius advanced to the semifinal round in the 178lb. Senior Novice Division winning a decision over Simon Hwangpo in an action packed bout that had the crowd on their feet. Scores were 29-28, 29-27 and 28-29.

Fighting in the 200lb. Open Division, Shawndell Winters headed to the semifinals with a win over Ramsey McGraw by scores of 30-27, 30-27 and 29-28.

Calvin Zirkle advanced to the semifinal round in the 178lb. Open Division with a win over Samuel Horowitz in a very spirited battle. Scores were 30-26, 30-27 and 30-25.

In the 156lb. Senior Novice Division, Brian Javier defeated Larry Luckett by scores of 30-27, 29-28 and 29-28.

Qualifying for the semifinals in the 178lb. Senior Novice Division, Alexander Emmanadildis stopped Michael Harvey at 0:24 of the second round.

The Fight of the Night took place in the 178lb. Open Division between Robert Calvin and Ray Corona. With both combatants hitting the canvas multiple times amid the roaring crowd at Cicero Stadium, Calvin was awarded the victory and a trip to the semifinals by stoppage at 2:31 of the second stanza.

In the 156lb. Senior Novice Division, Vance Godbold earned a trip to the semifinals with a decision over Ernesto Sanchez Jr. by scores of 30-27, 29-28 and 29-28.

Fighting in the 165lb. Novice Division, Osvaldo Vera advanced to the semifinals with a decision over Michael Ratliff by scores of 30-27, 30-26 and 30-25.

Ernest Scott heads to the semifinals in the 178lb. Open Division following his defeats of Daniel Johnson by scores of 29-28, 29-28 and 29-28.

In a fantastic women’s bout in the 119lb. Open Division, Shelly Barnett advanced to the semifinals defeating Alejandra Mercado in a terrific bout filled with two-way action. Scores were 40-36, 40-36 and 39-37.

The action ended quickly in the 156lb. Senior Novice when Julian Smith dropped Marlon Ordonez in the first round calling a halt to the action at the 0:47 mark.

In the final bout of the evening in the 200lb. Open Division, Peter Rallo wasted no time advancing to the semifinals drilling Elvis Cervantes to the canvas shortly after the opening bell, the stoppage coming at the 0:27 mark.
