Sherman Oaks, CA (April 8, 2014) World-ranked junior middleweight contender and Southern California fan favorite Vanes "The Nightmare" Martirosyan will return to the ring on Saturday, May 10 at the USC Galen Center on the campus of the University of Southern California in Los Angeles, it was announced today by his promoter Dan Goossen of Goossen Tutor Promotions.
Following his outstanding performance in a ten round decision on March 21 over Mario Aguila, Martiroysan will see action in a scheduled eight-round clash.
"Vanes made it very clear upon signing he wanted to stay busy and grow his fan base here in California; the added benefit is his desire to work in the gym under his new trainer, Joe Goossen," said Dan Goossen. "The combination of learning new things with Joe, and staying busy, will allow Vanes to better utilize improved skills in real action."
"Couple that with his immense fan support in Southern California, particularly in the Armenian community, it can only enhance Vanes' popularity toward his world championship march."
The bout will be featured on the off-TV portion of the ESPN televised "FIGHT FOR PEACE HEAVYWEIGHT HISTORY" bout between Haiti's #1 WBC Heavyweight World contender Bermane Stiverne and Chris Arreola, the #2 WBC Heavyweight World contender of Riverside, California for the vacant WBC Heavyweight Championship of the World.
Martirosyan won every round against Aguila in a bout telecast on ESPN Friday Night Fights from the Morongo Casino Resort Spa in Cabazon, California in his first bout under the Goossen Tutor Promotions banner.
"My last fight was the first time I felt like a pro," said the former world title challenger Martirosyan. "It's amazing even to me. I said being with Joe for only three weeks, he had me understanding the need to work harder and developing some of my other offensive weapons."
Commented Joe Goossen, "It's important now, at only 27 years of age, that we prepare Vanes to the fullest of his potential and not allow another opportunity for the world championship to fall through his grip. Activity in the gym and the ring can only help us."
"FIGHT FOR PEACE HEAVYWEIGHT HISTORY" is presented by Don King Promotions and Goossen Tutor Promotions.
