Boxing News Update. Unbeaten Tony Aitcheson has been learning from one of Britain’s best as he prepares for his fourth pro outing on the undercard of Gary Sykes’ vacant British super-featherweight scrap with Jon Kays.

The 25-year-old has been a key sparring partner of stable mate Sykes, and says the experience will be invaluable when he steps through the ropes at his hometown’s Dewsbury Leisure Centre on May 24, with the show live and free on VIPBOXING.TV.

“It’s been such a good experience and I’ve never seen Gary performing the way he is. I’ve been learning loads from it because, obviously, he’s much more advanced. The amount of punches he throws per round; it really is just a pleasure to spar him.

“Every training camp I’m getting better. I’m improving so much and I’m looking to show it on fight-night.”

Once talked about as having the same potential as ‘Five Star’ Sykes, an enforced break from the game at Her Majesty’s Pleasure is now firmly behind Tony. A recent dad, the former 16-bout unbeaten amateur has earned rave reviews in his fledgling paid career.

Boxing renowned Birmingham tough-guy Dee Mitchell, who has only been stopped twice in 69 fights, when he appears in his hometown for the first time, Aitcheson is looking to follow up on his first inside-the-distance win last time out by putting in another exciting performance.

“I’m going to go in and box him and show my skills. People know I can have a fight, so I’d like people to see how much skill I’ve got. I’ll feel him out and if I get the opportunity I’ll take him out.

“Every fighter wants to fight in their hometown and hopefully this’ll be the first of many. I’m confident Gary will bring the title home, and the atmosphere will be amazing, I know it will be.”

“Tony has really knuckled down and dedicated himself to the game, and his trainer Julian MacGowan has high hopes,” explained promoter Steve Wood. “He had a reputation in the amateurs as an exciting fighter who was always in entertaining fights, and we’re seeing the same from him now. Tony is also really popular and a great ticket seller and I think he’ll eventually be topping these kind of shows himself.

“This show, which is headlined by a British title fight, is completely free and live on VIPBOXING.TV for anybody that can’t come along.”

Dewsbury’s Gary Sykes and Ashton under Lyne’s Jon Kays contest the British super-featherweight title at the Dewsbury Leisure Centre on May 24. The undercard features Dewsbury’s Tony Aitcheson; Ancoat’s Dale Coyne; Heywood’s Mark Thompson; Holyhead’s Mark Evans; Lancashire’s AJ Faizy, and Belfast’s Tommy McCarthy.

Tickets, priced £35 and £70 (ringside) are available from all boxers, at http://www.vipbe.co.uk or can be purchased on the door or from the Dewsbury Leisure Centre (01924 325020).
