Urijah Faber vs Mike Brown II Betting Odds
By Brad Marchetti, Doghouse Boxing (June 6, 2009)
The betting line for the much anticipated WEC featherweight title fight between Urijah Faber vs Mike Brown have been posted by the sportsbooks with the ultra-popular Urijah Faber as -135 favorite to regain his title. The fight is arguably the most anticipated MMA match-up of 2009 and will be aired on the Versus network at 9 PM ET. In the first fight the unheralded Brown capitalized on a Faber mistake and flattened the Californian by 1st round KO. Faber has promised Vegas Sharps that he will not make the same mistake twice and is determined to fight a more careful fight in the rematch.

Uriah Faber, 22-2, 18 Stoppages, is a fast-twitch athlete that has overwhelmed most of his opponents to date with his technique and elite athleticism. A dedicated and conditioned “worker” Faber has excellent conditioning and well-rounded skills on the mat and in his striking ability. Faber mixes in his strikes well and uses his quick feet to position himself for success. In the first fight the well-built Uriah seemed to get overpowered which is rare. For the rematch Faber has done some extensive weight training an has added a few pounds of muscle to level his strength disadvantage against Brown.

Mike Brown, 21-4, 16 Stoppages, is not a quite a household name in the MMA fighting world yet but another win over Faber could change that. Some critics questioned whether or not Brown’s win over Faber was a fluke but were quickly silenced when Brown whacked out the formidable Leonardo Garcia in the 1st round 3 months ago. Brown is a physical menace that has tremendous ground and pound skills. Mike is an excellent grappler that is fundamentally sound in all aspects of MMA fighting. Brown’s right hand is a lethal weapon and has the force to concuss any man that it connects with.

Both of these fighters are pound-4-pound MMA fighters but the difference in the end will be speed. Brown is surging but Faber will be able to reverse the outcome in the rematch with his superior athletic ability. Faber does have a good chin and should be able to stay focused enough to not get caught with a stupid shot in the rematch. Faber’s awkwardness and incredible stamina are also factors that I feel will be the difference.
