Friday Night Fights In Miami: Joey Hernandez vs. Ed Paredes Tale-of-The Tape
By Brad Marchetti, Doghouse Boxing (Aug 21, 2009)
This Friday hot South Florida boxing contender Joey Hernandez will face the stiffest test of his young career when he faces hard-hitting Ed Paredes in a 12-rounder on Miami Beach. The show will be the first from Ciclon Promotions which is run by Jr. Lightweight Yuriorkis Gamboa and Henry Rivalta. The fight card is chock full of local talent with Stalin Lopez, Richard Abril and Yoelvis Gamboa.

Ed Paredes is a tall and powerful Welterweight that likes to come forward and unleash is big straight right-hand. Paredes, 22-3, 13 KO’s, has some nice offensive tools but he has been easy to tag in recent bouts and has a susceptibility to cuts. Paredes also is somewhat one-dimensional, has only marginal footwork and a tendency to load up his punches.

Joey Hernandez, 15-0, 8 KO’s, is a young, flashy southpaw that had an established amateur career going 40-9 before turning pro in December of 2006. The Miami-born Cuban Hernandez is a well-built Welterweight with fast hands, nice agility and sound boxing technique.

Hernandez has faced only limited competition in his first 15 fights as a pro so his stamina is still a question mark having never been passed 6 rounds.

Joey Hernandez has been waiting for an opportunity to show his authenticity as a prizefighter and we feel he will rise to the occasion. While Hernandez has never been passed 6 rounds he is a well-conditioned boxer that knows how to stay relaxed. We expect Hernandez to box his way to a decision win over the slugger Paredes.
