MARCH 29, 2006 - The International Boxing Hall of Fame announced today Hall of Fame light heavyweight champion Bob Foster will attend festivities planned for the 17th Annual Hall of Fame Induction Weekend set for June 8-11th. Boxing out of Albuquerque, NM Foster turned pro in 1961. He captured the world light heavyweight championship in 1968 with a fourth round kayo over Hall of Famer Dick Tiger.. A remarkable run of 14 successful title defenses followed, including wins over Vicente Rondon, Mike Quarry, Hal Carrol, and Pierre Fourie. Foster retired in 1978 with a 56-8-1 record and in 1990 was elected into the Boxing Hall of Fame.
“The Hall of Fame is looking forward to welcoming Bob Foster back to Canastota,” said Hall of Fame Executive Director Edward Brophy. "Boxing fans will surely enjoy visiting with him."
The June 8-11th Hall of Fame Induction Weekend will feature over 20 exciting events including the official induction ceremony honoring the Class of 2006. Living inductees to be honored at the Official Induction Ceremony on Sunday, June 11th are junior flyweight champions Michael Carbajal and Humberto “Chiquita” Gonzalez, historian / publisher Hank Kaplan and promoter / manager Jarvis Astaire. Posthumous inductees will also be honored.
Over 50 boxing stars, including Ken Norton, Emile Griffith, Angelo Dundee, Aaron Pryor, Leon Spinks, Alexis Arguello, and Canastota's Carmen Basilio are scheduled to participate in weekend festivities.
