Montreal, April 9th, 2010 - Groupe Yvon Michel and TKO Boxing Promotions have announced today that phenomenal Montreal middleweight rising star David Lemieux (22-0-0, 21KO) will battle former world title challenger Elvin Ayala (20-4-1, 9KO) of New Haven, Connecticut for the prestigious WBC International Middleweight Title. The bout will be the main event of the 4th installment of the highly touted “Boxing Under the Stars” Gala, taking place at the spectacular Uniprix Stadium during Grand Prix Weekend in Montreal.

The eagerly anticipated event, presented by the Casino de Montreal, will take place on June 11th, 2010, the Friday before the world-famous Grand Prix of Canada.

Ayala represents without question Lemieux’s most dangerous adversary since turning pro in 2007. The 29 year old American has an impressive amount of international experience. In 2008 he made it all the way to the 12th round before succumbing to the devastating punching power of knockout artist Arthur Abraham (31-1-0, 25KO), as he challenged for the IBF middleweight world title in Germany. In 2007 he fought to a draw against the champion of “The Contender: Season 1”, Sergio Mora (22-1-1, 6KO), who went on to become the WBC super welterweight champion the following year. His promoter Chet Koerner, president of TKO Boxing Promotions says of Ayala: “Elvin has proved himself both in the Abraham fight and the Sergio Mora bout that he is one of the toughest warriors in the middleweight division. His bout against Lemieux on June 11th should be a very exciting battle for the fight fans in Montreal.”

Lemieux, who is coming off his most significant win to date, a crushing 2nd round KO of the usually durable and dangerous brawler Walid Smichet (20-7-3, 14KO) at the Casino de Montreal on April 3rd, is well aware of the importance and difficulty of the match that lies ahead: “Ayala is a good boxer and I know that there will be a lot of attention placed on my performance against him. I am more focused than ever, and I will be training at maximum capacity for this fight. This is a great challenge for me especially after Ayala’s performance against world champion Arthur Abraham.” According to Yvon Michel, the president of GYM: “Every time David gets into the ring you can feel the emotions and the excitement. A spectacular victory would propel our young protégé to the elite levels of the middleweight division.”

The Boxing Under the Stars Gala has become a real highlight of one of the city’s biggest tourist attractions, the Montreal Grand Prix. The organization is expecting a sellout crowd of 10000 spectators.

Every year close to 3000 fans congregate for a massive tail-gate party as they take advantage of the beautiful summer weather, the party atmosphere, and the great music and entertainment going on at Uniprix Stadium.

All the action on June 11th will be broadcast live on Canal Indigo, Bell, and Shaw TV. Radio NRJ will also broadcast the main event on the airwaves throughout all of Québec for the first time.

June 11th 2010 marks David Lemieux’s explosion onto the world boxing scene at one of the world’s best boxing venues, Montreal’s Uniprix Stadium.
