Rocky Balboa, the sixth instalment in Sylvester Stallone's boxing franchise Rocky, will be released on December 22, according to an announcement Thursday by distributor MGM.

The movie will cast Stallone as the ageing Philadelphia ex-boxing champ who runs a small restaurant and struggles to come to terms with the death of his wife and the estrangement of his son.

His life changes when he is offered the chance of an exhibition fight against the current champ and accepts the challenge against the advice of his friends and family. Rocky steps back into the ring one last time to prove that he still has the heart of a champion. -DPA.
