Kostya Tszyu and Mike Tyson attend Kyokushinkan Karate-Do World Championship in Moscow

MOSCOW(RIA Novosti) , September 12 Sunday saw the close of the Kyokushinkan Karate-Do World Championship in Moscow with Russians winning eight of the nine medals in Kumite (sparring), the most prestigious competition of the championship.

Russia's Shamsudin Abdurashidov (under 80kg weight category) and Sergei Osipov (+80kg weight category) both won gold medals. Another gold went to Matsuda Kazui from Japan.

Japanese fighters Ishijima Masahide and Yanai Chiaki won the gold in the Kata (demonstration of technique) competition. The best in Tamishevari (breaking of boards) were Sergei Melyuk from Russia and Stella Kazantseva from Turkmenistan.

Former undisputed boxing welterweight champion of the world Kostya Tszyu and former boxing heavyweight champion of the world Mike Tyson attended the championship. They praised the organization of the event, the level of competition of the fights, and the outstanding skills of the fighters.

Hatsuo Royama, the president of the International Organization of Kyokushinkan Karate-Do, said he had given permission to hold the championship outside Japan as an acknowledgment of all the accomplishments of the Russian Federation of Kyokushinkan Karate-Do and of the outstanding fighting technique of Russian athletes.
