WASHINGTON, D.C. (December 12, 2004) -- "Mensa Mauler" CHAZZ WITHERSPOON, a senior at St. Joseph's University, successfully graduated to the big leagues of professional boxing, blasting out James Daniel at 1:53 of round one tonight, at the new Washington, D.C. Convention Center. With his cousin, former world heavyweight champion Terrible Tim Witherspoon, rooting him on with Chazz's parents, Chazz scored his first knockdown before the first minute was over with a strong left lead to Daniel's chin. Chazz finished the job like an old pro, drilling Daniel with an overhand right for the 10-count.
The 6'4 Witherspoon, 23, who is on a full academic scholarship, graduates from St. Joseph's in May 2005 with a Bachelors in Pharmaceutical Marketing.
"I am glad to get this one out of the way," said a jubilant Witherspoon, "Now I have to hustle back to St. Joesph's and get ready for my final exams."
"Chazz is just what the doctor ordered for the heavyweight division," said Witherspoon's promoter Gary Shaw, who was at ringside along with Witherspoon's manager, Shelly Finkel. "Tomorrow I will start working on getting Chazz an endorsement from a pain reliever...so he can hand them out to his opponents!"
Witherspoon is expected to return to the ring, Thursday, January 20, on "Ballroom Boxing," at Michael's Eighth Avenue in Glen Burnie, MD.
