Ricky Hatton Fans love Boxing... but do Manny Pacquiao Fans Love the Sport?

A huge part of Manny Pacquiao's popularity is the media. The Filipino media especially. They write about everything on Pacquiao. From a gas station that he bought, to his political ambitions, to the baptismal of his child. If Pacquiao does something, they write about it. I can only pray that Pacquiao locks the door behind him when he goes to the washroom... otherwise I'd hate to read the headline.

Yeah, I am sick of it. I am sick of the love fest. I don't hate Pacquiao... far from it. Of course he is fun
to watch, but I am no longer enjoying the media coverage he gets. Its outrageous and lame. Yes, the Filipino people love Pacquiao. Nothing wrong with that, but its blind love. My opinion, not many Filipino fans of Pacquiao are real fans of boxing. You just know the day its over for Pacquiao, most of these fans will stop their support of Boxing.

Hatton fans are Boxing fans. Yes, there is a huge difference. The Filipino people have nothing in the way of international Super Stars. I know of no other famous Filipino other than Pacquiao. So it seems natural the Filipino people would fall in love with Pacquiao. But Hatton fans have tons of Super Stars in the UK to follow. Stars that are famous the world over. So it's not like they follow Hatton because they have no other international Super Star. They follow Hatton because they actually follow and love the sport boxing.

Filipino fans of Pacquiao need to step it up and actually become fans of Boxing and not just infatuated with Pacquiao.

Honestly, I don't think the Filipino love fest for Pacquiao is good for boxing. I doubt 1 in 10 Pacquiao fans from the Philippines will remain fans of boxing when Pacquiao retires. So where does that leave boxing?

I also wonder if Pacquiao fans in the Philippines even pay that much to watch Pacquiao fight. While the rest of us here in America and the UK have to pay outrageous prices for PPV... I wonder how much the people in the Philippines have to pay? I wonder all this because I have to wonder if the Filipino fan is paying his way like the rest of us?

Bottom line, of course these are just my feelings, but I don't feel Pacquiao fans are good for Boxing. I am starting look forward to the day when Pacquiao retires, because I can't wait until the sport returns to normal. I can't wait until I can Google up Boxing news and read up on other boxers and not be bombarded with tons of silly articles on Pacquiao.

I am just sick and tired of the Pacquiao fanatics. They seem more nuts than actual fans of Boxing. For those of you who read my articles, you know I like Pacquiao. You know I support him... but that's because I support boxing. I am a fan of Boxing, the whole sport and not just one Boxer.

For those fans of Pacquiao who are actually fans of Boxing... none of this article was aimed at you... and that includes the REAL boxing fans from the Philippines. For those of you who are just fanatics of Pacquiao... wake up! The Sport is so much better than just watching Pacquiao.
