Undefeated featherweight Rico “Suavecito” Ramos, 19-0 (10), struggled at times against two-time world title challenger Alex Valdez, 23-5-3 (17), through ten rounds of featherweight action in the “ShoBox: The New Generation” main event at Bally’s in Atlantic City on Friday night.

The taller southpaw Valdez was on the receiving end of potshots by the quicker Ramos in the first frame, in what quickly became a difficult outing for the favored Ramos as the fight progressed.

Things became more complicated due to the aggressiveness displayed by Valdez for the remainder of the fight, despite Ramos controlling most of the tempo, staying a step ahead of his opponent on all fronts.

Ramos went down in the final round, as both men tangled and headbutted, with Ramos getting clipped as he turned his back before dropping to the canvas.

Both fighters would trade furiously to the bell, with Valdez staggering back to his corner.

Scores were 97-93 (twice) and 98-92, all for Ramos.

George Stops White in One

In the first televised fight of the card, super middleweight Don George, 21-1-1 (18), blasted out Cornelius White, 16-1 (15), in the first round, with the latter tasting the canvas three times in the first frame.

George dropped the taller White with a spectacular left/right combination and a right hand bomb. Jumping on his dazed opponent, George dropped White once again against the ropes and a third and final time with referee Randy Neumann halting the bout at 2:02 into the round.

On an off-TV bout, former world heavyweight title challenger “Fast” Eddie Chambers, 36-2 (18), won an IBF elimination bout by winning a unanimous decision over Derric Rossy, 25-3 (14). Scores were 115-112, 117-110 and 120-107.
