A body shot from hell did the job in the six, in what turned out to be an all-out action fight, when Argentinean strongman Marcos Maidana scored a six-round stoppage over previously undefeated Victor Cayo, 24-1 (16) with one no-contest, on Saturday night’s HBO-televised “Boxing After Dark” main event at the Joint, inside the Hard Rock Hotel
and Casino in Las Vegas Nevada.

Moving in on the skilled and mobile Cayo, Maidana would turn up the heat inside the Joint, scoring a flash knockdown with an overhead right in the final second of the second round. Confusion ensued, although referee Robert Byrd called it right, with tempers flaring in each corner.

The pressure continued in the second, as Maidana once more wobbled his opponent, getting Cayo in trouble against the ropes.

Cayo briefly turned the tables in the next round, pinning Maidana against the ropes and landing the cleaner shots to keep the Argentinean humble during the round.

Both men traded on even terms in the fifth, throwing body shots and hooks to the head on the inside.

Continuing the tempo in the sixth round turned out to be disastrous for the Dominican. While trading on the inside, an already weakened Cayo was caught with a monster body shot, which left him crumpled and gasping for air on the ground.

The stoppage was declared at 1:38 of the frame; with the victory, Maidana raised his record to an impressive 28-1 with 27 KOs.
