In a co-featured bout on Friday night, at the Universidad Tecnológica, Santa Fe, Argentina on Telefutura’s “Solo Boxeo”, lightweight Alberto Santillan, 16-5 (5), traded shots on mostly even terms, against equally speedy Marcelino Lopez, 18-0 (7), through five.

Santillan pressured in the sixth round, with a head shots sending Lopez’ mouthpiece to the ground seconds before the bell sounded, ending the round.

Santillan stayed on top of the action in the seventh, keeping his opponent pinned against the ropes for most of the round. Lopez lost his mouthpiece twice more in the eighth round.

Lopez worked well in the tenth, landing a clean body shot, which Santillan quickly shook off, getting back to his pressuring tactics before both fighters finished strong trading at center ring. Santillan, however, ended the fight with a bruised left eye.

Scores were 95-95, 97-94 and 96-94 with Lopez winning a highly controversial majority decision which was booed by the crowd at hand.

Lopez claimed the vacant WBC Latino lightweight belt.
