Roger Mayweather-trained and undefeated welterweight Jessie Vargas, 12-0 (7), made short work of Argentinean Pablo Sarmiento in the featured bout of Thursday night’s Fox SportsNet/Golden Boy Promotions’ “Fight Night Club” card at Club Nokia at L.A. LIVE.

Coming out with both hands by his sides, mocking the undefeated fighter, Sarmiento had a good one minute’s action coming forward, before getting caught and pummeled with a devastating shot to the jaw, crumbling to the
canvas in his own corner before the referee stopped the action at 1:31 into the round. The bout was scheduled for eight rounds.

With the loss, Sarmiento’s record dropped to 33-14-3 with 16KOs.

Welterweight Salvador Rios (Ronnie Rios’ sibling) went all out for four rounds against the southpaw Marcus Robinson, with Rios taking the split decision via scores of 39-37 (twice) and 37-39.

Robinson moved very well using his long reach to take the first two rounds clean, with Rios playing catch up by the fourth and final round.

Welterweight Anthony “The Aztec Warrior” Martinez, 6-0 (5), halted Ronnie Peterson, 2-4 (2), with a debilitating left hook to the liver at 52 seconds into the first round of another scheduled four-round bout.

In other results, welterweight Jamie “The Nuisance” Kavanagh defeated Ricardo Malfavon via unanimous decision in four.

In the walk-out bout of the night, Lightweight Ramon Valadez dropped Carlos Hernandez twice in the first frame, getting the stoppage at 2:15 in the same stanza.

There were three other bouts, amateur outings, which opened the card.
