Richard Schaefer
Had a chance to chat with Golden Boy Promotions, CEO, Richard Schaefer earlier, who is in New York, currently. While he still has not received that elusive phone call from Bob Arum, he did tell me that the preliminary plan is for IBF bantamweight titlist, Abner Mares and lightweight contender Jorge Linares to co-headline a Showtime broadcast on April 21st. Several venues are in play, including the Nokia Theater at LA Live. There is the possibility that WBA bantamweight belt-holder Anselmo Moreno could be added to this card.

Also, he continues to try and figure out the situation regarding WBC lt. heavyweight champion Bernard Hopkins and Chad Dawson, who are mandated to face each other again. The latest is that both he and Gary Shaw are wrangling over what the split would be in case of a purse bid. Shaw is pushing for a 60-40 and Schaefer responded with a 85-15 split.( The WBC standard is 70-30 normally in these circumstances). I’m still not sure if this return bout takes place. There certainly doesn’t seem to be a lot of public demand for it.

- Schaefer also admitted that while Robert Guerrero in the near future, with some key victories will one day be in line for big pay-per-view assignments, the current onslaught of press releases coming from his team calling out Floyd Mayweather are getting to be a bit much. Amen.
