Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. on CBS?

In talking to Bob Arum today (who has a lot of nuggets in a full feature I’ll be working on soon), he told me that Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. who just beat Billy Lyell this past weekend in Culiacan, Mexico, will face Sebastian Zbik next for the WBC middleweight title.

But the big news is that if an unnamed country in the Middle East puts up some large money to stage this fight, they will attempt to put this on CBS as a Saturday afternoon fight.

Why Chavez Jr.

Well, he draws good ratings (this past weekend’s bout on Fox Sports Espanol, was one of their most viewed events ever), and well, he’s the son of a Mexican legend. TV programming is about the biggest ratings and procuring sponsors, Chavez Jr. may deliver that.

- While I was on the phone with Arum, he got a call from one Kermit Cintron. It looks like Arum will be cutting a deal with Lou DiBella to get his services to Top Rank.

- May 6th, the night before Pacquiao-Mosley, Top Rank will be hosting a ’Friday Night Fights’ on ESPN2 from the Mandalay Bay. That would be their first FNF in years.
