Nick Charles to Leave ShoBox
By Steve Kim, MaxBoxing (April 22, 2010) Special to Doghouse Boxing
Nick Charles, who has been a mainstay on the ShoBox franchise since it’s inception in 2001, unfortunately has had more issues with his cancer, and will be bowing out of his duties doing blow-by-blow for Showtime after the April 30th edition of the show. He told me yesterday as I was booking him as a guest on the latest edition of ’The Main Event’, which came as a surprise to me given that he looks so much better than he did back when I last saw him during the weeked of Pacquiao-Cotto.

Charles, is a great individual and the way he has attacked his ailment is an inspiration. He says he simply couldn’t promise Showtime he could be there every single broadcast given his health and his scheduled treatments. He says he would still like to stay involved in the sport and that he isn’t calling this a retirement by any means. Regardless of what happens, I wish him well.

- My other guest on ’the Main Event’ is Henry Ramirez, the trainer of Chris Arreola, who talks candidly about working with the mercurial ’Nightmare’.

- Nothing has been set yet, but there is serious talk between Don King and Lou DiBella to stage the IBF light heavyweight title fight between Tavoris Cloud and Glen Johnson on the undercard of Devon Alexanders next fight on August 7th in St. Louis. Alexander, who is the WBC jr. welterweight titlist, still doesn’t know he’s going to be facing as of yet.
