Boxing Notes on Timothy Bradley, Floyd Mayweather, Manny Pacquiao, Andre Berto, Yuriorkis Gamboa and More

There’s no doubt that Cuban fighters have a lot of ability and huge amateur credentials, like the guy who just beat Richard Hall on the most recent “Friday Night Fights” (I’m too lazy to look it up right now) but let’s be honest about it; outside of Yuriorkis Gamboa, aren’t they really just boring to watch, for the most part?

Yeah, I said it. I meant every word. And I’m sure more than a few of you agree with me.

The word is that Tim Bradley will be facing Luis Abregu (again) after Marcos Maidana pulled out of their July 17th appointment on HBO. Honestly, if “The Desert Storm” isn’t going to face Devon Alexander for all the marbles at junior welterweight, I’d like to see him face WBC welterweight titlist Andre Berto. Berto isn’t the biggest 147-pounder in the world and, from what I’m told, they had some pretty good scraps as amateurs.

My thinking is this, if Bradley is going to move up to welterweight, why not face a good one, instead of a guy who’s a limited fighter? To me, if Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather just continue to posture and circle each other, they will need other options to fight, in the interim. To me, the winner of Bradley-Berto becomes a prime candidate to be in the mix to face either of those guys.

And it could also be a helluva battle.

Trying to find Lange’s appearance on “Joe Buck Live” on YouTube was very difficult. It seems as though HBO has tried to expunge this from the history books like Stalin...Speaking of HBO, I really enjoyed their latest documentary, “Broad Street Bullies,” which took a look at the rabble rousing Philadelphia Flyers of the 1970s…It might be just me, but the Orlando Magic seem to be the best team in the NBA right now...Matt Swider-man asked me, "Now that they got Amir Khan in the country, can we get Paulie Malignaggi out of it?" Yeah, he’s not a fan of “The Magic Man” from Brooklyn. Matt also didn’t know what to think of Margarito’s imitation of Andre Dirrell; he dubbed him “The Tijuana Matrix”...Goossen-Tutor announced the signing of WBA light heavyweight champion Beibut Shumenov on Saturday afternoon...”Handsome” Joe Hernandez (yes, he’s still alive!) told me that it looks like Daniel Ponce De Leon will face Jhonny Gonzalez on July 31st on the Marquez-Diaz II undercard....
