Boxing Promoter Bob Arum Sees More Stadium Fights in his Future
By Steve Kim, MaxBoxing (May 29, 2010) Special to Doghouse Boxing
There was a time not-too-long ago, when I dubbed Bob Arum, ’the Boy Who Cried Stadium’, because of his penchant for promising fights in major league stadium across the country, only to come up short for one reason or another. Well, in 2010, he had a huge event in Dallas/Arlington, next week he goes to the new Yankee Stadium and when I talked to him today, he said he had completed a deal with both Steve Tisch of the New York Giants and Woody Johnson of the New York Jets, to bring them a major event in the spring of 2011.

He also told me today that Dodger Stadium reached out to them about putting on a show in the near future. The reason is very simple according to Arum, with the success of Manny Pacquiao- Joshua Clottey, the visionary that is Jerry Jones, had led the way. And these venues need events, too many blank dates hurts their bottom line.

But my hats off to Arum (yeah, he still needs to ramp up his undercards) but he is bringing some significant bouts to venues that are away from the casino’s. To me, that’s a huge step in the right direction.
