Early Morning Wake-up Call filled with buzzkills

I was sleeping rather peacefully this past Thursday morning when I got a phone call, and it was filled with buzzkills. First, I was informed that Vanes Martirosyan has passed on the chance to face Alfredo Angulo on Nov. 5th on HBO. But the silver lining is that James Kirkland could be stepping into the batters box for him- if he gets legal clearance from the authorities. Regardless of how long Angulo-Kirkland lasts, that’s a slugfest. As for Martirosyan, well, he should stay away from the bold comments on Twitter for now.

Also, Humberto Soto may lead off that ’Boxing After Dark’ card from Cancun, Mexico.

- The the real sucker punch, Lucas Matthysee has pulled out of his Sept 17th assignment on the ’Star Power’ pay-per-view bill versus Erik Morales. Golden Boy Promotions literally found out and are now scrambling. More details as they come in...
