'Star Power' at the Gate (How much Money Mayweather vs Ortiz made...)

Just got off the horn with Keith Kizer,
executive director of the NSAC, who told me that this weekend's show at
the MGM Grand in Las Vegas featuring Floyd Mayweather and Victor Ortiz
had a gate of $9 million, had 13,364 tickets sold, 3,052 tickets unsold
and 1,268 comps. Certainly nothing to sneeze at.
But just remember this, if a promoter just pays the state or
commission tax on a ticket, it goes down as a fully sold ticket and is
registered that way on the club report. If you checked the ticket
brokering sites last week you knew that the prices of those tickets took
a sharp decline and the MGM Grand was calling local VIP’s trying to
give away tickets.
It didn’t help that ringside seats were priced at $1250 and as I’ve
talked about before, these in-house deals with the brokers really shut
the general public out of buying tickets early at an affordable price.
Will they ever learn?
