Believe It, Hardly Anybody Showed up to Hopkins - Dawson

I got a good source who works closely with the
commission over here in California, who informed me that the
Bernard Hopkins - Chad Dawson fight sold 3,888 tickets, had 4,521 comps( of which 3,210
were used) for a gate of $285,000. Hopkins made a million dollars and
Dawson was paid $800,000.
Now, this show might have been a ’loss leader’ for AEG, which needs
to put events on during the NBA lockout, but it’s certainly a bad look
for boxing. The original idea for this card was going to place it in
Canada( in Quebec City) with Jean Pascal- a legitimate gate attraction
in that part of the world- but I’m told that Hopkins for some reason
objected going back there.
But this much is clear, this event probably fit better on Saturn than
it did the Staples Center/Southern California.
