A couple of
weeks ago, I was asked on Twitter what I had heard about the Floyd Mayweather - Victor Ortiz
pay-per-view figures. I responded that I was told “850,000” from good sources.
From there, it spread like wildfire and gospel on the Worldwide Web. I guess
the whole part of taking things with a grain of salt went right over everyone's
head.
But I
should've known better and realize that even on Twitter, with what my job is,
what I write is my responsibility. For that, mea culpa, mea culpa, mea culpa.
But I'll say this, I trust my sources and the next time someone asks me a
question of this nature, I will answer once again and that may upset people (again).
The thing I
really find interesting (and quite frankly, sad) is how some fans act as if the
numbers garnered for “Star Power” are some sort of validation for them. Huh?
Are they themselves are getting a percentage? I find this bizarre. It reminds
me of people who live vicariously through rappers, to be honest with you. Funny
and sad at the same time. Folks, you aren't getting broken off by either
Mayweather or Manny Pacquiao unless you're catching some burnt money at a club
or losing a lot of weight while being a part of the “Pac-Man's” entourage.
If those
folks are happy for Mayweather, they're going to be overjoyed with how Albert
Pujols will be paid very soon.
