The 2012 boxing schedule is starting to come
into clearer focus now. I’m told that the working date for the rematch
between WBO featherweight titlist, Orlando Salido and Juan Manuel Lopez
is March 31st at the Coliseo de Puerto Rico on the island. Featherweight
contender, Mikey Garcia could be leading off this Showtime broadcast.
- As it relates to who WBC middleweight belt-holder Julio Cesar
Chavez Jr. will face on Feb. 4th, HBO has made it clear that they prefer
he face the likes of Marco Antonio Rubio or Vanes Martirosyan. Rubio,
seems to make sense given that he is the mandatory challenger. To me,
Rubio is the choice to make here. I think it’s a legitimate fight.
- And right now the plan from Top Rank is to have a doubleheader at
the Home Depot Center in Carson, CA that will feature Brandon Rios and
Yuriorkis Gamboa. It’s not clear at what weight ’Bam Bam’ will fight at(
whether he tries to make 135-pounds or move up to jr. welterweight). As
for Gambo, he could be matched with the rugged Rocky Martinez.
