A Manny "Pacman" Pacquiao vs. Floyd "Money" Mayweather Jr. ‘Super Fight’ has been talked about for as long as anyone cares to remember.
Fans would like nothing more than to know the two biggest names in boxing will clash in 2015 but talk is cheap and so far the two men have not even shared the same room let alone a boxing ring.
The Filipino legend desperately wants to test his skills against the unbeaten American pound for pound king, and not just for the extraordinary amount of money the fight would generate.
“Mayweather can get the amount he wants. As early as January this year, I challenged him to a charity fight. Until now, he has not agreed to it. So, money is not the issue in our fight,” Pacquiao said on his official website via the Detroit Free Press.
“This fight is about legacy, this is about making the fans happy and, above all, this is for the good of boxing.”
Pacquiao (57-5-2) added: “He (Mayweather) has reached a dead end. He has nowhere to run but to fight me. I will try my best to make this a thrilling and entertaining fight.
“But I doubt if he’s gonna engage me in a slugfest. You all know his fighting style. Most of his previous fights, if not all, induced us to sleep.”
In the past the stumbling block has been mainly about who will claim the lion’s share of the profits and drug testing issues. Only last Friday Mayweather Jr remarked on Showtime that Pacquiao was not entitled to a 50-50 split of the purse, further putting any potential fight in jeopardy .
A SecondsOut poll on the front page reads that 31% believe the fight will happen and 43% do not. Most notably, because there has been more talk than and no action 26% do not care either way.
