Boxing Trainer Emanuel Steward slams David Haye

SecondsOut.com - Legendry Hall of Fame boxing trainer Emanuel Steward insists David Haye does not deserve a crack at Vitali Klitschko’s WBC heavyweight crown after such an ‘appalling’ performance against his younger brother Wladimir Klitschko back in July.

Haye was embarrassingly humbled over 12 one sided rounds by Wladimir and Steward believes that performance does not warrant him a title shot.

“David doesn’t deserve it.” said Steward: “His performance against Wladimir was terrible, appalling.

“Sadly, I keep hearing this fight might well go ahead because Vitali really wants to finish the job Wladimir started on Haye by knocking him out. Although from David’s view-point you have to suppose he would only be doing it for the money.”

It is rumoured that Vitali will face Haye at the Esprit Arena in Dusseldorf, Germany on March 3 and that negotiations are pretty much complete. However, no official announcement has been made.

If that is indeed the case Steward believes Haye could trouble Vitali providing he comes to fight this time. “Vitali is bigger and hits hard but he comes straight in and doesn’t have the same balance and elusive movement as Wladimir,” said Steward.

“David might give him a little more trouble but that supposes he would come to fight this time, which on his performance against Wladimir is not certain.”
