SecondsOut.com - WBA super welterweight champion Miguel Cotto, 36-2-(29) scored a 10th
round win over Antonio Margarito, 38-7-(27), at the sold out at Madison
Square Garden in New York City on Saturday night.
Cotto built up
an early lead by counter punching on the move. In round three Cotto
opened up Margarito’s right eye, the same eye Margarito suffered an
injury when he fought Manny Pacquiao .
Margarito upped the pace
in the middle rounds but Cotto’s sharp punching on the move kept his
nose in front. Margarito’s eye was now swollen shut by round seven, but
he continually marched forward in a bid to break Cotto down but the
champion still landed the more eye catching punches.
Ringside
Doctors took a long look at Margarito’s eye at the beginning of round
nine, but the bout continued. However, after 0.03 of the 10th round
doctors had seen enough and advised the referee to stop the fight to
save Margarito from sustaining a worse injury
