1994: Pernell (Sweet Pea) Whitaker W 12 Santos Cardona, Norfolk, VA. Retains World Welterweight Title.
Tracy Harris Patterson W 12 Richard Duran, Reno. Retains WBC Super Bantamweight Title.
1998: Former WBA Heavyweight Champion and 1976 Olympic bronze medalist John Tate, 43, dies in an auto accident, resulting from a stroke caused by a brain tumor in Knoxville, Tenn.
