12 Rounds with Macka Foley - Mayweather, Pacquiao, Toney, Roberto Duran and Much More By David Tyler, DoghouseBoxing (May 15, 2010)
Please welcome boxing trainer Macka Foley into the doghouse. Macka has been a trainer since the early 70's. He has been a boxing consultant for over a dozen movies that feature boxing in the plot. He also spent six years as an assistant trainer for Manny Pacquiao. Macka currently teaches boxing at Fortune's Gym in Hollywood. Let's go 12 rounds with Macka.
David Tyler - Your initial reaction to the Mayweather/ Mosley fight?
Macka Foley - Good fight, better than the De La Hoya/ Mayweather fight.
DT - Do you think we will ever see a bout between Pacman and Mayweather?
MF - Yes, there is too much money involved for the fight not to happen.
DT - Your favorite memory of training Manny Pacquiao?
MF - The way the Filipinos idolized him. Almost overnight he became their national hero.
DT - The best fighter you ever trained?
MF - James Toney.
DT - The best fighter in the sport today?
MF - Manny Pacquiao.
DT - Your favorite boxer today?
MF - The Black Russian, Ismayl Sillakh.
DT - Your favorite boxer of all time?
MF - Roberto Duran.
DT - The best fight you have ever seen?
MF - The Thrilla in Manila---Ali/ Frazier III.
DT - One fight that you could watch over and over again?
MF - Salvador Sanchez and Azuma Nelson, what a great fight.
DT - If you could match one fighter today against a fighter from the Glory Days, who would they be?
MF - Manny Pacquiao versus Roberto Duran.
DT - What's the most God awful bad decision that you have ever seen?
MF - Hagler/ Leonard. Hagler beats Leonard every time I watch the fight.
DT - Will boxing ever make a comeback in popularity with sports fans?
MF - Certainly. Just look at Pacquiao or Mayweather and the interest they generated just negotiating a possible fight. The next Olympics will produce some American champions.
