Juan Diaz - Baby Bull
After nearly three years, the “Baby Bull” has grown tired of ordinary life and ready to return to the place he knows best, the squared circle.

After growing a successful trucking business, in addition to various other ventures such as wine, clothing lines, management, entertainment, a restaurant, construction, landscaping, remodeling, as well as gaining entrance into law school, Diaz can’t resist the itch to return to the ring any longer.

Speaking to this author early last month (he asked out of respect to not leak any information until an official announcement), former unified lightweight champion Juan Diaz explained the reasoning behind his decision.

“I had this planned. I retired because I needed a break and didn’t want anybody asking me about my return. It’s time, I have a successful business bringing me money, rental properties. I need three more championships now.”

Fellow former world champion Jessie James Leija, now a promoter, announced that Diaz’s return is scheduled to be April 13 in Corpus Christi, Texas, a short three hour drive away from his home base.

One noticeable change is that longtime trainer Ronnie Shields will not be in the corner. For reasons that are not to be disclosed here, Diaz has chosen to train with his former assistant trainer Derwin Richards at his base of the Savannah Boxing Club in the Gulfton area of southwest Houston, where murals of his namesake adorn the walls. His conditioning coach is still Brian Caldwell, and his brother, former undefeated professional boxer Jose Diaz is assisting Richards at this time.
