Fans Ask Robert 'The Ghost' Guerrero
By Doghouse Boxing Readers (June 14, 2004)
Robert 'The Ghost' Guerrero
Featherweight prospect Robert 'The Ghost' Guerrero who earlier this month battered former WBA super bantamweight title holder Enrique Sanchez to an eighth round stoppage on 'ShoBox: The New Generation', touches base with DoghouseBoxing Readers this week. Robert stopped by the Doghouse and answered some of your great questions.

ELBOW QUESTION FOR THE GHOST

How was your injury treated? I had surgery on my Left elbow 4 months ago and it still hurts only when I spar hard. I had tendonitis and hyperextending was a problem. So I had scar tissue removed. How long did you wait to use it again? Thank you, Chris

The Ghost: Well thank God I didn't have to get surgery done, but it took me 8 months to get back to 100%. I didn't want to take any chances and took my doctors advice to lay off it completely. God Bless you on your recovery

The Ghost: I want to fight for a title by the end of this year, I feel I'm ready. I have faith in my team to get me there. Who ever the people think is the best is the one I want to fight and is on my radar. If its Marquez, Pacman whoever, I'll fight that person.

TRAINING AND WIEGHT

Robert,
Congrats on your win Saturday, at 122 pounds you looked great and I'm impressed with your humbleness, and willingness to learn the game. My question is How is a typical day in the peak of your training? and is keeping your weight a problem? Are you looking in the future maybe move up in weight?

Thank you and god bless
Good luck in your career
Juan Contreras

The Ghost: First of all thank you for your complement on my humbleness, it's my faith in God that keeps me humble. I run hard in the morning and then get into my gym work and start sparring followed by more conditioning. It's not a problem for me to make weight at this stage in my career, but I do see myself moving up in weight as my body gets bigger, I'm only 21.

A COMMENT FROM A FAN...

My name is DAVID ROSSETTI from Reno, Nv. and I want to wish the GUERRERO family all the luck in the world. I am a true boxing fan and have been for 40 years and I feel that "The Ghost" has as much talent and potential than anyone I have seen in the last 20 years. My all-time favorite fighter was SALVADOR SANCHEZ and I want to tell ROBERT, that I feel in my heart. that you will equal his accomplishments. Good luck, and may God Bless you.

David Rossetti
Reno, Nv.

The Ghost: Wow, to even be mentioned in the same sentence as Salvador Sanchez is such a great complement. He is one of my favorite fighters as well, and I watch tape of him all the time. If I can equal his accomplishments, it will be a blessing from God. My Goal is to be a legend just like him.

THE RIGHT CHOICE

Hi Robert
Who were your favorite fighters growing up? And why did you pick boxing for a career? It seems to be the right choice.

Manny Santos, NY

The Ghost: Salvador Sanchez, Julio Ceaser Chavez, Oscar De La Hoya are all fighters I look up to. I like to watch tape on those guys and learn from them. I chose boxing as a career because I love the sport and all my brothers and a lot of my uncle's as well as my grandfather were all boxers. I grew up in the sport and started boxing at the age of 9.

VIN DIESEL CONNECTION

Hi Robert

What's you connection with the movie actor, Vin Diesel? I've seen you in media photos with him. Are you his friend or going to be in a movie with him? What gives. Good luck. You've made me a fan!

Omar Shultz, TX

The Ghost: Well, I met Vin Diesel after one of my fights. He said he liked the way I fight so I gave him an autograph and we took a picture together. I consider him a more of a fan than a friend. He's a real nice guy and if he asked me to do a movie with him, I'd jump all over it.

JEEPERS, CREEPERS....WHERE DID YOU GET THAT NAME!?

Hey Ghost

Just watched your fight from Saturday. You got skills and I will definitely be watching you from now on. 1 Question.....How did you get your nickname? I love it!
Derrick Fischell

The Ghost: I got my nickname when I was training in the gym as a kid. I would be sparring and moving left to right so fast it was hard for others to get good shots on me, like a ghost. The name stuck and the rest is history.
