The Association Of Boxing Commissions is currently huddled in Las Vegas at the beautiful Flamingo Casino & Hotel, their meetings to last through July 30.
On Wednesday, July 27, the Commissioners voted to elect their Officers, and the votes went as follows:
· President - Tim Lueckenhoff was elected to an unprecedented third term. Mr. Lueckenhoff was elected by acclamation.
· Vice President (2)
1. Dr. Flip Homansky (28 votes)
2. Mike Mazulli (23 votes)
· Secretary - Joanna Aguilar (By acclamation)
Congratulations to the new Officers, we wish them well.
In other action, the ABC has ruled that all fighters 147 lbs and below will use 8 ounce gloves, those 147 and above will use 10 ounce gloves.
In addition, after August 10, the ABC will no longer supervise fights in states that don't have Commission(s).
Fight Fax will remain the ABC's official record keeper. BoxingRec made a strong presentation but failed to get the nod.
Aladdin Freeman was among the first media members to congratulate Mr. Lueckenhoff on his re-election, and managed to get his first statement following the swearing in and selection of year 2007 site. Mr. Lueckenhoff expressed excitement at having been elected for an unprecedented third time.
He added that his main priorities are:
1. To continue to work with referees and judges to improve the quality of the fights.
2. To continue to work with sanctioning organizations to ensure they conduct meaningful events.
3. Wants to work with all commissions, not just Nevada, to form a National Commission before the government steps in. This is his main goal.
The membership agreed to hold their 2006 convention in historic Philadelphia. PA, and the Miccosukee Gaming and Resort was elected as the host for the year 2007. Billy Cypress, chief of the Miccosukee Tribe (Miami, Florida), serves as Director for Region 2.
