Coming up April 11th, at the Cypress Bayou Casino in Charenton, LA, the longtime veteran Danny Batchelder 31-9-1 (15 KO’s) will go head to head against the hard hitting heavyweight Johnnie White 22-4 (18 KO’s) in what Danny describes as his best fight yet to come.

Batchelder, who has been in the boxing business for nearly two decades, is a former Mike Tyson sparring partner, and an active fighter in the Bare Knuckle Boxing. The New Yorker has had some bad breaks in his career, but, feels he can make a comeback and prove to the fight world that he is a legit boxer.

In this exclusive interview, Danny speaks out on his career and more, enjoy.

Benny Henderson Jr. You have a fight coming up April 11th against Johnnie White. Give the readers your thoughts on that upcoming match-up.

Danny Batchelder
I think it is going to be a good fight. He has a good record, he comes to fight. I am looking forward to this fight. This should be the best fight of my comeback. I have been working hard and I plan on putting on a good show. I am looking to have a great fight.

BH You have had some tough breaks in boxing. A lot of ups and downs, some people would over look you by looking at your record. Your thoughts on this roller coaster ride?

DB
You know Benny, it is kind of like this, probably the toughest part of my career has been bad management. Some of my best fights, Alexander Dimitrenko, James Toney and Lance Whitaker I did not get the decision. I got discouraged because of these fights. Like when I fought Brian Minto, I took that fight on twelve days’ notice. That was my first fight at heavyweight. I went the distance but that was not really me. I have taken a lot of fights when I was not ready or on short notice. I am not making excuses, but that is the truth. And I took some when I was ready for them and I did not win them either. It is kind of weird, it is like I am blackballed from boxing. I fight good fights but get bad decisions. I had Dimitrenko down two times. I did not get them. I took time off, but, I am back, I am going to give it another go. I have had great reports from guys like Roger Mayweather, but, the people do not know how good I am because they have not gotten to see me. I am coming back one last time, I am wanting to set the records straight, I feel that I can fight.

BH You have also competed in some bare knuckle boxing. How many fights have you had?

DB
Thirty-one.

BH And your record?

DB
Thirty-one and zero, won them all.

BH Do you plan on doing any more BKB or are you going to stick to the gloved?

DB
Right now I may go back to it after this. I have had some BKB here and there, my name is still active in it. I kind of like the BKB, I will tell you one thing about it. There are no bad decisions or promoters ripping you off. (Laughs)

BH What do you feel are our greatest assets as a fighter? What do you feel you offer to the heavyweight division?

DB
You know Benny, I feel heavyweights these days don’t box like they used to, they don’t think like they used to. They don’t work off their jab. I feel that I am that fighter. I do work off my jab, I use my punches, and I have an entertaining style. I am not scared to fight anybody. I box smart.

BH What can the fight fans expect from you come fight night?

DB
For me to be at my best, I am putting my heart and guts into this, I know this is my last go around, and I am taking this very seriously. I want to look good and I want the fans to be excited, I want them to see me and know that I am back.

BH If you could send a message out to Johhnie White what would that message be?

DB
Be ready.

BH Anything you want to say to the haters or the fans?

DB
To the haters, keep hating, doesn’t make any difference to me. The ones behind me, I appreciate it, thank you for sticking with me, I have one more good run in me and I will see you out there.
