Unbeaten super featherweight Jose Pedraza faces off against Juan Carlos Martinez in a 10 round bout on August 15. The battle will take place at the Chumash Casino Resort in Santa Ynez and will featured befire the main event (Rustam Nugaev vs. Danis Shafikov.) In this interview, Jose Pedraza steps into the Doghouse and gives readers his take on his upcoming challenge. Enjoy!

Benny Henderson Jr.: Give the readers your thoughts on your upcoming match-up against Juan Carlos Martinez.

Jose Pedraza:
I know Martinez is coming in hungry to upset me. He just had a good win against Alejandro Perez. So I’m expecting a very tough fight, but I feel I’m the superior fighter in this matchup.

BH: You are coming into this bout with a perfect record. Your opponent has had fourteen losses on his resume. Most of those losses come from some really good opposition. In my opinion, he has nothing to lose and everything, so would you agree that makes him a dangerous opponent?

Jose Pedraza:
He’s a very dangerous opponent. Like I said he’s coming off an impressive win and he’s looking for the upset. This is his opportunity to knock me off so I’m not taking him lightly.

BH: As a young man in the fight game, what do you feel are your greatest assets as a fighter, and what do you feel you can improve on to make you a complete fighter?

Jose Pedraza:
I feel my ring intelligence is one of the best gifts God has blessed me with. As a fighter, you need to make adjustments in fights to out think your opponent. I feel I do that well. In this game there is always room for improvement, so I’m constantly working on everything. I have big dreams to be the best fighter to every come out of Puerto Rico, and it takes hard work.

BH: How do you see this fight against Martinez playing out?

Jose Pedraza:
I feel he’s going to come with an aggressive style and I’ll have to box him. Either way I’m going to see what he does and then make an adjustment. If I hurt him, then I’m going for the knockout. No doubt about it I’m coming out on top.

If you could send a message out to your opponent, as well as the fight world, what would that message be?

BH: Jose Pedraza:
To Martinez and everyone fighting in my division, especially the champions …I’m coming for you all. I fight for my people of Puerto Rico and my goal is to bring back glory to the island.

BH: Anything in closing?

Jose Pedraza:
I want to thank my promoters Gary Shaw and Javier Bustillo for giving me another opportunity to showcase my skills on ESPN “Friday Night Fights”. I know if I keep winning I’ll be fighting for a world title in the near future. I want to thank all my fans back home in Puerto Rico and here in the States for all their support. Thank you.
