Interview by Benny Henderson Jr. Doghouse Boxing (July 16, 2008) DoghouseBoxing.com
This Friday night from the Horseshoe Casino Riverdome, in Bossier City, LA, former Ring Rulers Ark-La-Tex middleweight amateur champion Cale Grady makes his professional cage debut as he takes on Austin Xtreme’s Ryan Chavarria.
Grady, a Waco native who now trains out of Houston, TX under the Miletich Fighting Systems banner had a stellar amateur career, battling to a 5-1 record and earning himself the Ark-La-Tex middleweight title. Grady has decided to make the transition to the pros in hopes of one day being a world champion.
Grady, who although appears to be an easy-going fellow away from the ring/cage, turns into a fierce fighter when the bell rings, and he promises all who witness his throw downs, “I promise you, it will not be boring!”
This Friday night the tough Texan has his sights set on not only earning himself his first professional win, but entertaining the fans on hand during the process of delivering pain.
In this exclusive interview conducted by Doghouse Boxing, the young fighter speaks out on his upcoming bout and what his plans are for the future, enjoy.
Benny Henderson Jr.: You are making your professional MMA debut this Friday night; give the readers your thoughts on making the transition from amateurs to the pros?
Cale Grady: I think it is awesome man, making money doing something that I love to do.
BH: Any butterflies on making your pro debut?
CG: Ah, not really, I am a little nervous, but no anymore than I have ever been. I am trying to keep the same mind set and put more time in the gym. Other than that I am trying to look at it the same, I have to go in there and do what I have to do. Get in, win, and then get out.
BH: How would you describe your style?
CG: Jujitsu, I don’t want to go to the ground, or necessarily want to stand up, I just want to please the crowd. I want to end it fast, I want to be in there and get out, I like the quick knockouts.
BH: Your influences?
CG: I have been doing MMA for a few years, it has changed me a lot as a person, as a Dad, the mind frame and mentality is awesome.
BH: Your greatest abilities?
CG: My heart, I will never quit, I will never give up, I will never tap if all possible. Basically if you are going to beat me you are going to have to kill me, I do not like losing.
BH: How has it been working with Ring Rulers?
CG: It has been good, we are friends, they have been loyal to me and good to me. The have gotten me the fights to build me up.
BH: Other hobbies or goals outside of fighting?
CG: To be a good Dad, to be a good role model, to make it all the way up, from the Elite to the UFC, whatever it takes, I love the sport.
BH: What can the fight fans expect out of Cale Grady come fight night?
CG: I promise that it will not be boring, either I am going to get my ass whipped or he is going to get his ass whipped, I do not back down…I am coming!
