I want to show the world that Robert Guerrero is one of the best fighters out there!
Interview by Benny Henderson Jr., Doghouse Boxing (Mar 7, 2009)
This Saturday night from the HP Pavilion in San Jose, CA, live on HBO “Boxing After Dark” 10:00 PM ET/PT, the former IBF featherweight champion Robert Guerrero 23-1-1 (16) returns to the ring in search of world championship glory as he takes on Indonesia’s unbeaten Daud Yordan 23-0 (17) in a scheduled ten round 130-pound match-up.

“The Ghost”, who has electrified fight fans with his uncanny abilities and in your face fight action, looks to bigger names in the division, but has to get past Yordan before he takes on the likes of Juan Manuel Marquez or Manny Pacquiao. But no doubt, Guerrero is ready for war and out to prove that he is the best in the world. In this exclusive interview conducted by Doghouse Boxing, Robert speaks out in his upcoming fight as well as bright future, enjoy.

Benny Henderson Jr.: Thanks again for stepping back in the Doghouse, congrats on your first round romping over Edel Ruiz, how did it feel to come back and get the dramatic win?

Robert Guerrero:
It feel good, most of all it felt good getting back in the ring fighting in front of twenty-thousand plus fans.

BH: Does it add to the flavor when you are fighting in front of your hometown fans?

RG:
Oh yes, it is exciting, it is exciting to get out there in front of fans.

BH: Your last win was against Jason Litzau, and you were out for eleven months with trials and tribulations, how did it feel to get that win under your belt?

RG:
It felt real good to get back out there and march back up, and let the fans and media that I am back. I made it look like I did not miss a beat at all with the year layoff.

BH: Here you are again fighting, this time against an undefeated cat from Indonesia, 23-0 (17) knockouts, appears to be a nice record, what do you know about your opponent Yordan?

RG:
He is more of an Olympic style boxer, quick hands quick feet, counter puncher, he is a good fighter who comes to fight. I did not get to see much tape on him, or get to break him down like I wanted to, but I will be ready for him, we are coming to fight.

BH: How long do you think it will be before you get another title shot?

RG:
Hopefully my next fight after this, I am focused n March 7th, and then I will go from there, and hopefully the next fight will be a title fight.

BH: We had come great fights this past weekend, Juarez vs. John, Marquez vs. Diaz, there are guys that linger around your weight class, what are your thoughts?

RG:
John vs. Juarez was a great fight, it was back and forth, it started out Chris John edging him out boxing him, it was a lot of nice clean shots. But Juarez he fought with a lot of heart and came back, he was going for that knock out and almost got it. Like I said they were back and forth. Now the Marquez and Diaz fight was masterful job by Marquez by weathering the storm with the punches and bunches that Diaz was throwing. That was one of the nice things that Marquez was doing just picking and sharp shooting, and wore Diaz down and got him out of there.

BH: What are your thoughts on the Pacquiao vs. Hatton bout?

RG:
It is going to be a good fight, it all depends on how Hatton comes in, in his last fight he looks too relaxed, not fighting the way he used to. With Pacquiao you cannot do that, if he comes the way he usually comes it is going to be a great fight. He throws a lot of shots, and a lot of movement, with that hyper exciting moving around the way he does.

BH: There are several fighters in the division, just give us two or three names that interest Robert Guerrero.

RG:
(without delay) Marquez and Pacquiao, those are the names, pound for pound best fighters in the world. That is who I want to be in with, I want to show the world that Robert Guerrero is one of the best fighters out there. So those two names out there are top of the list.

BH: We have the triple header coming up this weekend on HBO, which you are one of the three, a very exciting card on HBO, what can the ringside fans as well as the HBO viewers expect from “The Ghost” come fight night?

RG:
Expect what you always see from “The Ghost”, fighting hard, land big shots, go out there work hard and make it happen. The card is going to be real exciting, you have three big fighters, it is going to be awesome.

BH: Closing thoughts?

RG:
Tune in March 7th, there is going to be a lot of fireworks, I am excited, and everybody else is, we have three young top fighters coming out and showcasing for the world. So I am excited and cannot wait.

I would like to thank Mario Serrano for all his help, and a thanks goes out to Guerrero for his time and thoughts.
